This day trip gave us an up close view, walk and touch of the awe-inspiring, terrifing volcano lava flows of 2018 on the Island of Hilo. Our fabulous tour guide/drive Todd, a relative "newby" to the island, shared personal family stories and an extensive knowledge of types of lava, speed, strength and random direction of lava. We saw it's height of nearly 3mtrs. Its flow through parks, boat harbour's and roadways.

Todd did a great job! Kept us well informed the whole trip. He even took pictures of my family whenever we asked. He showed my daughter great places to take pictures, made her feel included. Also, answered questions of all sorts. Highly recommend!

Took the Volcano Fire tour from NCL our driver was Todd and it was a great trip! He was very knowledgeable and had great connections, being from the Midwest.

Took this adventure on a 22 passenger bus. Michelle was our driver and was constantly updating us on the areas we were in. Started at Port from Pride of America, toured Hilo, went inland for tour. Volcanoes Park was very interesting along with all the recent lava flows down into the ocean. Great scenery, lots of stops. Unfortunately, one bathroom stop consisted of a filthy port a potty. Waterfall was impressive. Would have been a five star but "lunch" consisted of a granola bar and H2O from a paper cup. Tour operator needs to feed passengers better on a 6+ hour trip. Hot dogs @ lava fields? Recommended but bring your own food.

My wife and I took the "The Land of Frozen Fire" tour with driver Donna. Donna was 5 star, funny, personable, informative, and caring. The tour took us to different lava flows, black sand beach, and downtown Hilo. While at the beach we even saw whales. Excellent tour.

This tour was arranged by our cruise ship company and we were meet at the port. The group was split into two small minibuses with two very informative young lady drivers. We were given lots of information about Hilo as we drove to the sight seeing spots which included The painted Church, Rainbow Falls, Sea Arch and lots of lava sights. We were provided with water and snacks and ended our tour at the Farmers Market in the town. Along the way we given information on the history and geography as well as the language with some us learning a few words. We were also shown a DVD for the last eruption and ensuing lava flow. A great tour and wonderful guide too, suitable for most although some areas were more difficult to access than others. It was a half day tour which lasted about 5 hours but as we were enjoying ourselves we never noticed the time so may of been longer or shorted.

Huge thanks to our hosts at Arnott's Lodge Doug & Glory and our wonderful guide for the day Donna. Was last on the Big Island in 1999 and was great to go back to stay at the Lodge 20 years later. Service remains as friendly as before. Unfortunately the protests prevented us from visiting Mauna Kea but the team at Arnott's customised a tour for us to cover this and it was great. Our guide Donna was awesome, so knowledgeable about the Big Island. If you go to Hawaii, don't miss the chance to visit the Big Island and check out Arnott's Lodge website for all the adventure tours they offer. It's a very different world to Waikiki.
